SFCC Open Day Wrap Up

SFCC Open Day Wrap Up

On Saturday the 10th of March St Francis Catholic College opened its gates and doors to the general public to show our school for potential students and families for 2019. It was a massive day with over 500 people coming in through our gates inspecting classrooms as well as participating in the festivities provided for them.

The Open Day was a huge success!

My sincere thanks to the group of parents and students who volunteered to assist on the day. A massive thank you to the staff who prepared displays and demonstrations to showcase our College. Many prospective parents commented on how impressed they were and that the College presented a real community feel.

A big thank you should also be extended to Mr Lenh, a parent who organised for our local police to be on hand with show bags and a police van to highlight that Police are here to help in our community. We are expecting strong enrolment growth for 2019 and Kerrie, Donna and Liz ran out of enrolment packages on the day. Fortunately, we took a list of names so that we can catch up with interested families later this week.

Thank you to the following parents who contacted College Reception and volunteered to assist with Open Day:

  • Elizabeth Fonti
  • Cora Mills
  • Daniel Mills
  • Venessa Kuk
  • Nicole Simonetti
  • Sarah Muiser
  • Ray Tabet
  • Jennifer Tabet
  • Kylie Pellicciaro
  • Guy Boyd
  • Nuno Correia
  • Rebecca Waring
  • Magda Gandera
  • Nisha Bock
  • Ben Coleman
  • Michelle Cilia

as well as the many others who were present on the day and helped in any capacity.

St Francis Welcoming College Mass

St Francis Welcoming College Mass

On Wednesday 8th March, St Francis will welcome all members of the community to our first ever College Mass. This will be held in the Mary MacKillop Parish Church at Oran Park (on our school site) and will commence at 9:30am.

All parents are welcome to attend and we recommend that you park next to the church in the St Benedict's and St Justin's car park. You will avoid the traffic if you aim to arrive after 9am as most of the parents from the other two schools have left by then. This should be a beautiful Mass and we are expecting several guests from the Diocese of Wollongong and Edmund Rice Education Australia. We also have a special small momento for staff and students.

All guests are then invited to join us back at the school for morning tea. It is a great chance for you to mingle with other parents and to let our guests from the CEO and EREA know how much you love the school. Morning tea will conclude around 12pm. EREA and CEO guests will the be offered a tour of the College.

House Points and Merit Awards

House Points and Merit Awards

This week will see the official start to Merit Awards and House Points. Merit awards are presented to students who are particularly engaged with their learning or do something outstanding throughout the course of the day.

Merit awards are presented to the individual     and go towards achieving bronze, silver, gold and medallion levels at the College.

House points are opportunities for all students to contribute to their House and improve their teams chances of winning the College House Cup at the end of the year. The winning House will have the glory of being the first ever winner of the House Cup but will also receive a 'year of favour'. This will see the whole House team rewarded throughout 2018 on numerous occasions.

Parents of K-4 students should keep an eye out for merit charts once completed to come home. Parents of Years 5-7 may find merits in students diaries. Students may also come home wearing House stickers or having House stamps in their diaries.

Kindergarten Play-Based Transition

Our Kinder Play-Based Transition program will conclude this week. It has been a huge success. Thank you to the parents who have been so positive and involved with the program.

The feedback has been that the children involved have had a great experience and are already beginning to form some friendships. The other bonus is that they are busting to start school next year!

A huge thank you to the Rebecca, Jo and Dulcie from the Catholic Education Office for running the program. Here are some highlights:

At last we have take residence in our Reception Building which includes our Uniform Shop. Sandra (Uniform Shop Manager) and her team from Noone, are very excited and will roll out the red carpet to our student and their families starting Monday when they arrive for uniform fittings at their appointed times.

Some further glimpses of the Principal Office and associated offices. Sure they're a bit lifeless at the time, but these were taken before the all the boxes moved in!

Parent Volunteers & Helpers Needed

Parent Volunteers & Helpers Needed

We are very keen to hear from parents who may be able to assist with the covering of library books and readers. Currently we literally have thousands of books that require covering in contact. Every Friday until the end of the school year, we will have a small team of people working at the Macarthur Catholic Centre, Campbelltown, to accession books ready for students use.

If you are able to join them for a day or even a couple of hours, it would be greatly appreciated. If you're not available on Fridays, perhaps you could cover some books at home during the week?

We also need some parents helpers to assist with the barbeque lunch for our Community Day on Sunday 11th December. If you're handy with tongs please let us know! Volunteers for either book covering or BBQ please email us on info@sfccdow.catholic.edu.au.

Thanks!
